Pods for Dreaming (2024)
Pods for Dreaming is the first artwork that participants encounter as they enter Other World. This artwork takes form as an immersive, calm and peaceful otherworldly space bathed in subdued lights. Parabolic speakers overhead present a guided meditation inviting participants to relax in resting pods clustered around the space.
This installation takes place 300 years into a liberated future. Black people left earth in the 21st century when Black life on the planet had become unlivable. For centuries historians debated whether to allow subsequent generations to flourish unencumbered by the painful pasts their ancestors endured. They have finally came to the conclusion that the past should be open and accessible to descendants as a space where they can learn about and honour their ancestors. This space is a space station and a guided meditation here prepares them for their entry into the rest of the space where they will learn what happened in the past.
