Sync is a light installation by Jim Ruxton and Camille Turner. The artists were inspired by the complexity of synchronization found in natural systems such as fields of fire flies or audiences clapping. In response, Ruxton created a mathematical model that simulates this algorithm in real time and translates it into an array of amber LED lights. Turner encased each light in a fibre pod. The result is a mesmerizing and organic display akin to watching a fire.
“Jim Ruxton and Camille Turner’s computer-generated light installation, ‘Sync,’ recalls a field of fireflies illuminating the night in unpredictable intervals. The piece is both fascinating and calming, and I suggest dwelling at it for a while.”
